T-BALSA

DESCRIPTION:

T-Balsa is a low weight core material produced from FSC certified farms and forests of licensed Ecuadorian growers.  T-Balsa is Germanischer Lloyd (now DNV GL) approved and has the Forest Alliance Certified seal, that is to say the farms and forests are managed according to rigorous environmental, social and economic criteria designed to conserve wildlife; safeguard soils and waterways; protect workers, their families and local communities; and increase livelihoods in order to achieve true, long-term sustainability.

The wood used for T-Balsa has been carefully selected to MID’s strict quality standards, has good proportions between weight and strength (resistance to compression and shear).

It can be used in a wide range of applications in marine, wind energy, transportation & other industrial applications.

FEATURES:

T-balsa is easy to work with and can be slit, scored, grooved, perforated or with a combination of these operations to very close tolerances. Options for slitting are lengthwise, breadthwise or biaxial, thereby providing for both flexible and semi-flexible panels. They are compatible with most resin and manufacturing processes.

APPLICATIONS:

T-Balsa is suitable for use in composite material requiring low weight and high resistance to compression and shear such as in

·Marine boat construction (hull, decks, interior fittings)

·Rail and Road vehicles (floor, roof, panels, interior fittings)

·Wind energy plants (rotor blades - shear webs and shells)

·Buildings (architectural panels)

·Other industrial applications

STORAGE & HANDLING:

T-Balsa is supplied from MID’s factory in boxes with sealed plastic bags inside allowing easy access to the panels while keeping the remainder protected. It is recommended to keep the balsa panels in the original packaging until use. Cover the panels with plastic once the box is opened and do not leave balsa panels lying on the floor or table without protection. Ensure a dry working environment to reduce the exposure time to humidity to a minimum.
